Millions of children throughout the world face chronic malnutrition, die from preventable illnesses, or are vulnerable to exploitation, violence or neglect. Save the Children saves countless lives by providing food assistance, medical care, education and disaster relief assistance. And 86.5% of donations go directly to those programs.
In 2017, I joined Team Save the Children for the Minneapolis Triathlon as a way to honor the memory of Olivia Ann Christiano, who was born a sleeping angel to my good friends Robbie and Alisha. As a friend, it was hard to find the words to say during a time of loss. That’s when I decided I could use my triathlon hobby as a platform to raise money in honor and memory of Olivia to make a positive impact in the lives of children around the globe. Through the contributions of friends, family and some very generous people who I’ve never met, we raised $1,420 for Save the Children.
That experience inspired me to once again join Team Save the Children in 2018. I realized that I can take something that brings me joy, such as triathlon, and leverage it to drive positive impact for children who urgently need help. I strive to lead by example and be a positive role model, with hopes that my efforts will also inspire others to do something that helps others – whether it’s though contributions to my fundraiser or embarking on their own journey for change. With the help of family and friends, we raised $600 for Save the Children in 2018.
Thank you to everyone who supported my fundraising efforts. Together, we helped make life happier, healthier and safer for kiddos around the globe. Together, we made a difference.
